UIDAI has now introduced a blue colored Baal Aadhaar card for children below the age of 5 years, Considering the increasing importance of Aadhaar. To recall all children below the age of 5 don’t need to give biometric details for getting an Aadhaar card.
As per UIDAI, everyone can enroll for Aadhaar – even a newborn child. UIDAI has now also introduced a blue colored – Baal Aadhaar card for children below the age of 5 years and when the child does become 5, then he/she has to submit biometric authentication.
What is the importance of Baal Aadhaar Card?
Aadhaar, the 12-digit unique identity number issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), is a compulsory identity card. Aadhar is increasingly becoming mandatory to make use of most of the government schemes and other activities such as getting a new SIM card or opening a new bank account.
# It is required at the time of school admission.
# During the opening of a bank account.
# While LIC investments in the name of the child or it is a good idea to include the new child in the family floater health policy.
# While taking the child overseas on a holiday.
Apart from the single birth certificate document for the children now Baal Aadhar card is also a significant document for mutiple purpose of usage for your children that acts as proof of citizenship, identity, and address.
This is a mandatory document that must be obtained within 21 days of the child’s birth. It records the name, gender, parents’ name, address, date of birth and place of birth of the child.
Step by step guide for enrolling Baal Aadhar card number
# For enrolling children below five years, you need to visit the nearest enrolment center and fill out the enrolment form.
# Provide the child’s birth certificate. One of the parents must also provide their Aadhaar card number for authentication purposes. It is necessary to provide the ‘Aadhaar’ card of one of the parents for enrolling for child’s Baal Aadhaar card.
#It would be ideal to carry the original documents also provide a mobile number. # As the age of the applicant, in this case, is below five, no biometrics will be recorded and the only photograph would be sufficient. Biometrics should be updated after the child reaches the age of five.
# A photograph of your child will be clicked.
# Child’s ‘Aadhaar’ will be linked to the UID (Aadhaar card number) of his/her parents and when he turns five, a mandatory biometric verification is necessary.
# After confirmation, collect an acknowledgment slip.
# Once the registration and verification process has been completed, an SMS will be sent to the registered mobile number. Within 60 days of receiving this message, the Baal Aadhaar card number will be issued to the newborn child.
For children above 5 years old
# If a child is above the age of five, the enrollment form has to be filled out and crucial documents such as birth certificate and school’s identity card have to be provided.
#A biometric update is mandatory at age 5, at age 10 and again at age 15. Also, the same process of updating biometrics of 10 fingers, iris and the facial photograph has to be repeated at the age of 15 again.
If you failing to do enroll for Baal Aadhaar of your children, within the next 7 years would result in suspension of the Aadhaar card. Though there is no compulsion to register for Aadhaar at such a young age, it will be required to be eligible for overseas education or to get government scholarships.
