Facebook and Instagram will now tell you how much time you spend on them Facebook and Instagram want people to spend quality time on their platforms, even if that means spending less time on their platforms. As the tech industry comes under fire over issues like “smartphone addiction,” Facebook is trying to focus on “time well spent” on its apps.

That’s why a new set of features are starting to roll out to the Facebook and Instagram mobile apps recently to help you better manage how you spend time on the platforms. The new “Activity Dashboard” shows the average time and the daily time spent on the app over the last week.

The features include daily and weekly data on time spent within each app, a feature for temporarily muting push notifications, and a daily reminder system to notify you when you’ve hit a self-designated cut-off time for the day.

Do you know how much time you spend scrolling through Instagram or watching videos on Facebook?

So how do you find out exactly how much time you’re sinking into Instagram and Facebook? It’s pretty straightforward and largely similar on both apps.

A recent study showed that teenage girls who spent more than an hour a day on social media were more likely to suffer emotional and social problems.

If you’re worried about your Instagram and Facebook addiction, you can set a limit on the time you spend scrolling using the “Daily Reminder” feature, as well as switching off notifications for however long you want.

Notably

Readers must note that this feature will only tell you the time you have spent on that application just for that device. It will not reveal the gross absolute numbers of hours you have spent on Facebook or Instagram across devices including your smartphone, tablet or desktop.

Besides this, soon, there will also be an option to “Mute Push Notifications” as well. This is said to save users time by limiting the notifications from Facebook and Instagram for a certain time period.
