Google adds three new editing features to Gmail The features include a new shortcut to undo or redo in the compose window and a new shortcut for strikethrough text.

You will also be able to download messages. These new features will be available to all G suite users in couple of days.

The shortcuts will be added to each end of the formatting menu located at the bottom of the Gmail compose window.

Just like word processors, Gmail will allow users to undo actions for the occasions you meant to copy text but accidentally deleted it.

Google adds three new editing features to Gmail – Gmail describes the trio of new formatting options as follows:

Undo/Redo buttons (Shortcut to undo/redo in the compose window)

# The two buttons for undo and redo are respectively represented by curved backward and forward arrows which are located on the left-hand side of the formatting menu.

# As the name suggests, users can use the undo button to move to previous step, similar to MS Word’s undo buttons.

# These buttons will be in addition to the already existing Ctrl+z for undo and Ctrl+Y redo shortcuts.

Strikethrough (Shortcut to strikethrough text)

# The new strikethrough button is located on the right-hand side of the menu. It has been introduced because users want a quick way to express a change in thought in email.

# The strikethrough button allows you to point out a change in the communication.

# The feature is exactly same as the ones on WhatsApp, Google Docs or MS Word.

Download emails (Download as EML)

# Users can download messages as .EML files from the three-dot menu by clicking ‘Download message’ at the bottom.

# This will allow downloaded emails to be opened in almost all email platforms with the attachments and formatting not being messed with.

# These files can also be sent over email as regular attachments.

All of these new features will be auto enabled. While undo/redo and strikethrough buttons will be visible within the compose window, the download option will appear under the three dot menu.

Notably

Google will roll out this functionality to G Suite Gmail accounts first before bringing it to regular Gmail accounts which is likely going to happen in a few weeks.
