Google rolls out offline reading feature for Chrome on Android. Google Chrome has released a new update through which users can read content offline. This update of Google Chrome has been released for Android Mobile users. Chrome’s goal is to make the web work well for everyone, everywhere.

Google has recently added many new features to its Android apps and services. Google Chrome can now download the relevant news articles based on your interest and location over Wi-Fi so users can access those articles later when there is a limited or no connectivity for internet.

Since Google Chrome will download these article based on your interest automatically and does not allow users to choose the articles they want to keep for offline reading, it can be a hit or miss situation for the user.

Google is targeting this new feature at emerging markets like India and 100 other countries including Nigeria, Indonesia and Brazil.

# The new version of Google Chrome is available at playstore.

# Downloaded content will be available in the download section of Google Chrome App.

# In the download section of the app, three dots will appear on the right side.

# Click on these dots and you will find the content here.

According to Google, when users are connected to free, un-metered Wi-Fi, Google Chrome will automatically download “relevant articles” based on “what content is most popular in (their) location.” 

Additionally, if the users are signed into their Google account, the app will learn from their past browsing habits and download relevant content for offline use. The automatically downloaded content will be available along with all of the downloaded content available for access anytime, without an internet connection.

How is the updated browser feature different from earlier one?

# Although, Google Chrome released the offline mode for the Android app in 2016. But so far content or web page had to be downloaded by the user only.

The browser was further enhanced with a dedicated ‘Download Page Later’ feature for added convenience of downloading pages and viewing them offline.

# The recent update will automatically download the content.

# The update was complemented with a ‘Download Link’ option that enabled easy downloading of content than its original version.

# Apart from this, Google also introduced the web version of Android Message, via which text messages now can be sent directly through desktop and laptops.
