WhatsApp Beta for Android allows users to download data report and you will be able to see and download your WhatsApp account settings and information. WhatsApp, with its update 2.18.128 for beta users on Android, has launched a new feature called ‘Request account info’ is allowing its users to download their data.
How WhatsApp Beta for Android allows users to download data report
As per the report of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) guidelines, WhatsApp has made its data download tool available to Android beta users. While users can download their account information and settings, they will not be able to download their messages.
The Request Account Info feature is now available for Android beta users, that allows its users to download data report of their account information and settings such as profile photo and group names. The feature will be rolling out soon to all users around the world on the newest version of the app.
WhatsApp doesn’t appear to be collecting a whole lot of data, it includes many details such as your phone number, phone model, IP address, profile picture, mobile numbers of your WhatsApp contacts, and the name of WhatsApp Groups, as well as your privacy settings. Even it does not include your WhatsApp messages, because they are end-to-end encrypted and cannot be viewed by even WhatsApp.
Meanwhile, for safety measures the company has already assured its users that their data and communications are secured with end-to-end encryption, nobody in between can read messages and listen to calls, not even WhatsApp itself.
How to request your WhatsApp data report?
To download data report make sure that you’re running the latest version of WhatsApp,
- Go to WhatsApp Settings.
- Go to Account.
- Go to Request account info.
- Tap Request report button.
- The screen will update to Request sent.
The report will be ready in about three days after the date you requested it. Users can refer to the Ready by date when waiting for their report. Users should also note that certain account actions like deleting your account, changing your number or device and re-registering your WhatsApp account will cancel your request. If your request is canceled you can still request another report.
How to download your WhatsApp data report and export a report?
When the report is available, the user will receive a WhatsApp notification on your phone stating that their account info is ready to download.
The Request account info screen will inform you about the amount of time that you have to download the report before it is deleted from their servers.
The steps how to download data report
- Go to WhatsApp Settings > Account > Request account info > Download report.
- A ZIP file will be downloaded to your phone. The ZIP file includes an HTML file that is easy to view and a JSON file that could be ported to another app.
- Once the file is downloaded to your phone, select the Export report.
You’ll be unable to view the downloaded report within WhatsApp. Select any of the external applications that appear on your share tray to export the report. For example, you can email a copy of the report to yourself. Because the report has your personal information, you should be careful when storing, sending or uploading it to any other services. You will have to export the report to a third-party app.The report will be in a ZIP file that includes an HTML file that is easy to view.
How to delete the downloaded report?
Lastly, and most importantly, after you download your report to your phone, you’ll have the option to permanently delete the downloaded copy from your phone. Deleting the report will not delete any of your account’s data.
It’s also worth noting that once you send a request to download your account information report, it cannot be canceled. But, it will get canceled if you delete your account or change your number while the request is pending.
The latest WhatsApp feature is now rolling out to Android beta users. To use the feature, you need to be a WhatsApp beta tester and have the updated app (v2.18.128) installed on the Android. Hence, you have to wait to use this feature if you are a non-beta Android user or an iPhone user.
