Microsoft launches Windows Defender Browser Protection extension for google chrome
Microsoft has released its Windows Defender Browser Protection which is already a part of Edge as a Chrome extension. Lots of Windows users still prefer Chrome although Microsoft Edge is a solid browser and an improvement over Internet Explorer.
Microsoft is offering up its anti-malware technology to Chrome users. The Windows Defender Browser Protection extension for Google Chrome allows you to add an additional layer of protection when browsing online, and above that already offered by Google.
Of course, when it comes to user protection, Google Chrome also warns users about malicious websites, but Microsoft is claiming that its Windows Defender Browser Protection is far ahead of what you can get from Chrome. The software giant proclaimed that its Edge browser is 99 percent effective at blocking phishing attacks compared to Chrome at 87 percent and Mozilla’s Firefox at 70 percent.
How will Windows Defender Browser protect Chrome users from malware?
# The Windows Defender Browser Protection extension helps protect you against online threats, such as links in phishing emails and websites designed to trick you into downloading and installing malicious software that can harm your computer.
# If you click a malicious link in an email or navigate to a phishing site, or a website that hosts malware, Windows Defender Browser Protection will check it against a constantly updated list of malicious URLs known to Microsoft and warn you from visiting those links.
# If the malicious link matches one on the list, Windows Defender Browser Protection will show a red warning screen letting you know that the web page you are about to visit is known to be harmful, giving you a clear path back to safety with one click.
You can grab Windows Defender Browser Protection from the Chrome web store.
It is to be noted that although a large number of Chrome extensions work with Chrome OS devices, the Windows Defender Browser Protection extension is limited to Windows and Mac devices running the Chrome browser. Moreover, the extension apparently works in together with the default Chrome protection.
