How your Whatsapp friends could be spying on you by using a new app?

A new app called Chatwatch has launched recently that could let your WhatsApp friends spy on you even with all the security features in place. Chatwatch takes advantage of WhatsApp’s public online/offline status, which lets your friends know when you’re readily available to talk.

It’s a creepy new trick that the app’s developers hope will bring more attention to how Facebook handles our data, along with how other companies access and analyze it. WhatsApp has over a billion users on its platform-sharing information through texts, images, videos and other content.

To make it more private, the company has brought options such as the ‘Last seen’ feature and more. This prevents others from pinging you continuously and gives you a cutoff from the app.

How your WhatsApp friends could be spying on you by using a new app?

If you rely on WhatsApp to message friends and family, it’s important to know that the service lets your contacts know about when you’re available to chat, and whether you’ve read their texts.

Lifehacker recently found a new creepy app named Chatwatch, as the name signifies, watches when you are online on the messaging platform and gives others an insight. Chatwatch aims to help people find out ‘friends, family or employees’ activity’ even when they have hidden the ‘last seen’ function.

Using this data, the app can tell you how often your friends check WhatsApp. It can even estimate what time they go to sleep and wake up each day, potentially making it an invasive app.

Chatwatch initially launched on iOS but it was later pulled from the App Store by Apple for unspecified reasons. It’s currently available for Android, and the developers are presently working on a web-based version as well.

How the new app Chatwatch workout?

# The app Chatwatch, claims to let you view someone’s online history by scrolling through their activity timeline to see exactly when they were on their phone chatting on Whatsapp or how often your friends check WhatsApp.

# It’s possible to find out if a WhatsApp user is online or not simply by initiating a conversation with them (no messages need to be exchanged for this to work).

# Chatwatch can combine WhatsApp data from two of your contacts means it will also work ‘chat probability’ by comparing two numbers to show how likely it was that they were talking with each other. The app will let bosses track productivity by seeing how much time people spend on Whatsapp during the working day.

# So it’s possible that Chatwatch’s system is automating this process of checking on users and aggregating data to deliver insights.

How to download Chatwatch Apk on Android?

To get Chatwatch apk file. You can use its download button and get it on your android mobile. There are many apk provider websites from where you can get the Chatwatch apk. Just simply go to below-downloading button, and click on it. The Chatwatch apk will be started download automatically.

In case, if you do not have internet connection on your mobile. Download Chatwatch from your desktop/pc or laptop. After that, you can transfer the apk file using Bluetooth or Xender.

How to Install Chatwatch Apk On Android?

It is now available on google play store, so directly you can install from there. Straightly, go to google play store and search Chatwatch there. And first one is the real application. Before installing it, check the review and rating, so you can know it is real or not.

If you got direct apk file, so you can install Chatwatch apk easily. Just open the download Chatwatch apk file, and a message will be shown, that your installation blocked. In order to get it to be installed on your android device. Just go to settings > security and simple tick on unknown sources.

After that, it will redirect you to the installation process. Just click on install and then next. Now the Chatwatch android app will be installed on your android device in few seconds.

Be careful while choosing the new app as Chatwatch isn’t free—it’s actually bit expensive. For $2, you get the ability to spy on two of your contacts for a week, so choose carefully.

How to download a copy of your Facebook data?

Recently a lot of people are talking about deleting their Facebook accounts after it came to light that Cambridge Analytica used Facebook provided tools and harvested personal data of nearly 50 million users and many users still have no idea what information of theirs was leaked.

Download a copy of your Facebook data

Facebook stores almost every single interaction you’ve had with the social network since you joined, including every time you’ve logged in, advertisements you’ve clicked, events you’ve been invited to, a list of the people you follow, your friends, your hometown, every time you’ve sent or received a message, every single status update and more.

Although Facebook affirmed that “We never sell this data, and this feature does not collect the content of your text messages or calls” but it is still scary that the company knows so much about its users.

However, what you’ll find is that this is an entire history of your life on Facebook. You can use this as a copy of your profile that you can download if you plan to leave the social network, but it’s also just a reminder of how much Facebook knows about you.

How does Facebook know everything about you?

Facebook recently admitted that it actually records more data about you than you would realize. And this data includes call and SMS records, even if the call you made or the SMS you sent has nothing to do with Facebook.

In addition to other private details, like your address, qualification details, professional carrier, liking, disliking, regular regime, even where you go for dinner, how often you travel out of country for working or vacation purpose, includes the special person of your life, etc. that Facebook also records and keeps. In other words, Facebook has lots of lots of data on you.

It’s basically the history of everything you’ve done on Facebook. It’s also the data that Facebook can use to learn more about you. When others get unauthorized access to this data, they can learn a lot about you as well. Well, using a few steps on Facebook you can actually find out.

How to download a copy of your Facebook data?

  • Go to Facebook.com/settings.
  • Tap “Download a copy of your Facebook data.”
  • Tap “Download Archive” and enter your Facebook password for security confirmation.
  • It might take a few minutes, but Facebook will alert you when your archive is ready and you’ll now be sent an email with your entire archive.
  • When it is, click “Download Archive” again, and a zip file will download to your computer.
  • Browse through that archive by opening each file inside the folder.
  • Now you can browse your way through a set of web page-like stores of information. For instance, “index.html” is an archived version of your Facebook profile including past relationships, jobs, and educational institutions.
  • You can view every photo you’ve uploaded along with all the EXIF data Facebook has on it – i.e. where and when it was taken, and even where it was uploaded.
  • You can even see everyone you’ve ever unfriended.
  • In fact, Facebook has kept track of every event you’ve ever attended, videos uploaded, locations and devices you’ve logged in from, the messages you’ve sent, the images it compiles for facial recognition and even what advertising topics it thinks you prefer being served.

Instagram new feature New Posts will make feeds more chronological

Instagram has introduced a new feature called New Posts that will let you keep updated and feel fresher with all the new posts in the app. Instagram is changing its algorithm to make things ensure that the posts you see are timely. The change also gives users more control over their feed.

Instagram's New Posts, new Algorithm For 2018

Instagram new feature New Posts will make feeds more chronological

Instagram’s New Algorithm For 2018 will make posts appear in users’ feeds more chronologically. The change comes after users have complained of seeing old posts in their Instagram feeds following the app’s switch from a chronological-based display back in 2016.

After Instagram switched its algorithm to a nonchronological, users criticised the algorithm, so after months of complaints, now Instagram has made some major changes to its feed.

How this new feature – New Posts will work out?

# With Instagram’s new feature New Posts will show up first again.

# Instagram’s new feature – New Posts button which will let you decide when you want to refresh your feed, instead of the app doing it automatically.

# If the button is tapped it will take you to the new posts at the top of the feed.

# With these changes, your feed will feel fresher, and you won’t miss the moments you care about. Say, if your friend shares a selfie from her party in the UK, it will be waiting for you when you wake up.

# Sometimes, the automatic refresh feature leaves users feeling totally blindsided which Instagram has seemingly come to recognize so they will now be able to refresh on their own

Why has Instagram changed its algorithm again?

As per the report of the Instagram, the company has heard users complaints about its algorithm-based feed, and now it’s making changes to display more photos and videos closer to chronological order.

Means users often complained that when a feed refreshes, it brings them back to the top, making them lose track of updates. That’s why the company has introduced a feature called New Posts.

Instagram originally used a chronological feed, showing the newest Instagram posts first when you opened up the app, but the company changed that in June of 2016 to display posts based on relevancy. The change caused days-old posts to be displayed in some situations, which users were unhappy with.

As the change caused the worst impact on regular social media users and content creators when they would often bury new posts in favor of bubbling up user content from several days earlier and there was no way for users to choose to view only new content.

Chinese hackers targeting WhatsApp to steal data, Indian Army warns users

The Indian Army has warned citizens against Chinese hackers, who are now apparently targeting Indians through WhatsApp. China is using messaging service WhatsApp to hack the phones of Indian users. The military urged users to save contacts by name, check all WhatsApp groups and to be wary of unknown numbers.

Chinese hackers targeting WhatsApp to steal data, Indian Army warns users

In a tweet posted by the official Twitter account of the Additional Directorate General of Public Information, IHQ of Ministry of Defence, the Indian Army has warned the citizens of the Chinese hackers’ attempts to steal data through WhatsApp.

Considering that there are more than 200 million or 20 crore WhatsApp users in India, this advisory should be considered as a serious warning. India’s diplomatic ties with China have been tense lately, and as per the Indian Army, the Chinese have now entered a new battle turf – WhatsApp.

Chinese companies have a major hold on the Indian IT industry, worth about $22bn, which the government feels can be misused.

How will these hackers breach your data?

The Chinese use all kinds of platforms to penetrate your digital world. WhatsApp groups are a new way of hacking into your system.

One of their latest styles of attack is barging into WhatsApp groups and then extracting data of users on that group.

For this, the Chinese are using mobile numbers beginning with +86.

Recently, a UK-based software engineer reported OnePlus is illegally accessing and stealing user data.

Directorate General of Public Information released a video detailing the alleged risks.

The video by the ADG-PI

Can WhatsApp Groups Be Hacked?

But, the question is, is hacking WhatsApp group really possible and if so then how?

Yes, Indian Army is absolutely correct in their assessment regarding the hacking of WhatsApp groups and the biggest drawback is the major security flaw in the backend of WhatsApp.

We all get the proof regarding the drawback of its security when the WhatsApp famous feature ‘Delete for Everyone’ came out with major flaws recently.

As per the researchers from Ruhr University in Germany had found out that a major security flaw in the backend of WhatsApp allows hackers to take control of WhatsApp groups, and then steal information, data from the participants of the group chat.

Paul Rösler, one of the researchers who wrote the research paper stated that in order to hack WhatsApp group, the hacker will need to take control of the WhatsApp server, which seems highly unlikely, but not impossible.

Paul had said, “The confidentiality of the group is broken as soon as the uninvited member can obtain all the new messages and read them,”

Once a new member joins a WhatsApp group, all participants of the group share their encryption keys with the new member, which leaves a huge doorway open for exploitation.

How can you keep yourself safe?

# The video goes on to offer advice on how to prevent such potential attacks.

# Save all contacts in a WhatsApp group on your phone with proper names, so they are identifiable.

# Users should conduct regular audits of their groups.

# Be on the lookout for unknown numbers entering WhatsApp groups.

# In case you change your number, inform the group admin immediately.

# Also make sure to deactivate WhatsApp before destroying the previous SIM completely.

What are the alerts for army personnel?

The Government at regular intervals keeps issuing such advisories to the personnel of Armed forces, including the Army, Navy, and IAF, regarding the perils of smartphones and refrain from mentioning the deployment of personnel in social media.

However, this is not the first time that the Indian Army has warned about the risk of online espionage conducted by the Chinese.

Back in November last year, Indian Army had also asked its soldiers at the Indo-China border to delete around 42 apps developed by Chinese firms and uninstall many applications and then format their smartphones to minimize security risks to prevent their phones getting hacked by the Chinese.

Moreover, popular apps like WeChat, Truecaller, Weibo, UC Browser and UC News were banned with immediate effect for officials, as they were deemed a serious security threat.

This followed inputs that foreign intelligence agencies, especially those in Beijing and Islamabad, are using them to steal data from smartphones.”Use of these apps by our personnel can be detrimental to national security,” as per the report.

Recently, the government sent notices to 21 smartphone makers including Chinese manufacturers like Xiaomi, Vivo, OPPO, and Gionee for allegedly stealing users’ personal information.

However, this is the first time that the Army has given a general alert to people all over the country regarding the threat faced by Chinese hackers.

So, users play safe with your WhatsApp and all other social media apps. Don’t share your Password of any apps and for better safety always log out after its usage. JAI HIND!!!

IRCTC ties up with OLA for booking cabs on its website/app

With an aim to providing first-and-last-mile connectivity, together, the IRCTC and Ola Cabs have launched a six-month pilot project which will enable commuters to book an Ola cab on IRCTC Rail Connect mobile app and website.

IRCTC ties up with OLA for booking cabs on its website/app

IRCTC or Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation announced a partnership with cab hailing firm Ola to provide end-to-end transportation service to Indian Railways passengers, as per the IRCTC report on its website – irctc.co.in.

To ease last mile connectivity and covers more than 110 cities across the country the Bengaluru-based company has tied up with IRCTC to provide in-app facility to book a cab service offered by Ola on its platform.

All existing Ola cab facilities, such as Ola Micro, Ola Mini, Ola Auto and Ola Share, will be available for customers at the same price on the IRCTC Rail Connect mobile application and website but will not be able to avail any of the discounts offered by the company.

To make it frill-free, Ola has enabled a feature where customers can choose to book cabs up to seven days in advance or upon reaching the railway station.

How to book an Ola cab through IRCTC website/app?

Here is a step guide to how you can book your Ola cab through IRCTC website and app,

1. Log on to IRCTC website/app (irctc.co.in) using credentials

2. In the services section, select ‘Book Cab’

3. You will be redirected to book.olacabs.com

4. Choose your pick and drop location

5. Now, select whether you want an immediate ride or wish to schedule it for future

6. Select your preferred cab option

7. Choose payment option and click on continue

8. Your booking is confirmed

Why is Ola taking this initiative?

The move is likely to ease getting in and out of railway stations, especially the ones in bigger cities, where locating the taxi kiosks, before booking and finding the particular cab transforms into a cumbersome task after hours of travel.

This move is likely to shrink the queues waiting to book a taxi or take an auto out of railway stations.

Ola has been trying to catch the railway and airport commuters via kiosks machine. Besides Railway and Airport, Ola also partnered with Rapid Metro Gurugram, Bengaluru Metro Rail Corp. Ltd to equip key metro stations with dedicated Ola kiosks.

There will be Ola’s self-serving kiosks at IRCTC outlets as well from where passengers can book their cabs. Premium railway travelers prefer app-based cab-hailing options as it’s cheaper than traditional cabs.

Microplastics found in 90% of bottled water Globally

More than 90 percent of bottled water is contaminated with microplastics, particle concentration ranged from zero to more than 10,000 in a single bottle.

microplastics in 90% of bottled water

As per the recent study, analysis of 259 bottles from 19 locations in nine countries across 11 different brands found an average of 325 plastic particles for every liter of water being sold globally.

This includes top brands like Aquafina, Evian, and Bisleri. In India, individual water bottles samples were drawn from 19 locations in Mumbai, Delhi, and Chennai, and the result was shocking, a Bisleri sample reportedly contained 5,000 microplastic particles.

As per the report by Orb Media, earlier in the last year, it had found 83 percent of the tap water samples collected from across the world to be contaminated with microplastics. The biggest concern is that water purification methods do not block microplastics of nano sizes.

The research into bottled water involved buying packs from 11 different global and national brands in countries chosen for their large populations or their relatively high consumption of bottled water. These were:

Leading international brands:

  • Aquafina
  • Dasani
  • Evian
  • Nestle Pure Life
  • San Pellegrino

Leading national brands:

  • Aqua (Indonesia)
  • Bisleri (India)
  • Epura (Mexico)
  • Gerolsteiner (Germany)
  • Minalba (Brazil)
  • Wahaha (China)

Leading brands denied the charges

Leading brands have defended the safety of their bottled water saying that their own tests showed significantly less contamination than in research. “We stand by the safety of our bottled water products,” the American Beverage Association said in a statement.

PepsiCo, which manufactures Aquafina denied the charges of contamination. It said that the bottled water goes through rigorous quality-control and is a safe product also the science of microplastics and microfibres is not fully developed yet and that microplastics are found across the environment.

Nestle told its own internal testing for microplastics began more than two years ago and had not detected any “above trace level”.

Coca-Cola said it had strict filtration methods, but acknowledged the ubiquity of plastics in the environment meant plastic fibers “may be found at minute levels even in highly treated products”.

Danone said it could not comment on the study because “the methodology used is unclear” but added that its own bottles had “food grade packaging”.

Do you think your bottle of mineral water is 100% pure?

No, not at all,  as per the research it has been found that there were several possible routes for the plastics to be entering the bottles.

# Plastic microfibres are easily airborne. Clearly, that’s occurring not just outside but inside factories. It could come in from fans or the clothing being worn as per the study.

# The presence of a carcinogenic substance in the water is a cause of concern.

# The results revealed widespread contamination with plastic debris including polypropylene, nylon, and polyethylene terephthalate (PET).

# The research said polymer Polypropylene, used to make bottle caps, was found in most samples.

# Nylon was the second most abundant polymer in the water samples.

# Polyethylene corresponded to 10 percent of the particles analyzed.

# The research further shows that a whopping 93% of bottled water contained tiny pieces of plastic. There were 10.4 microplastic particles per liter of the bottle.

# In one bottle of Nestlé Pure Life, concentrations were as high as 10,000 plastic pieces per liter of water.

# The study found bromate levels four times the WHO limit. Bromates are considered carcinogens which can cause cancer in humans.

# Only 17 bottles out of the sample of 259 bottles didn’t contain microplastic.

# As per the BARC researchers report high levels of carcinogens were found in bottled drinking water samples in Mumbai. 90 bottles of 18 brands were tested– 27 percent contained bromates much more than the WHO limit.

What is Microplastic and what its sources and types?

# On average, plastic particles in the 100 microns (0.10mm) size range known as microplastics, were found at an average rate of 10.4 plastic particles per liter. It is not biodegradable, it just breaks down into smaller pieces of itself.

# Sources of microplastics: Synthetic clothes, paints, tire dust, bags, straws, forks. Microbeads found in toothpaste, cosmetic products.

# Types of microplastic: Polyethylene terephthalate – found in packaged water bottles, food items.

High-density Polyethylene – package milk, juice, shampoo.

Low-density Polyethylene – package bread, milk cartons.

Polyvinyl chloride – Wrapping materials for meat and sandwiches, bath toys.

Polypropylene – Yogurt, medicine containers, winter clothing.

Polystyrene – fishing industry.

How to restrain the spread of Microplastics?

# Stop using plastic bags instead use jute or paper bags.

# Buy glass instead of plastic.

# Avoid buying plastic water bottles, instead purchase reusable one.

# Use public transportation to reduce tire dust pollution.

# Wash your synthetic clothes less frequently.

How much its unsafe for your health?

Currently, there is no evidence that ingesting very small pieces of microplastics can cause harm to human health.

As per the WHO, bottled water is the only source of water for nearly 2.1 billion people worldwide as they lack access to clean tap water. 4000 children die every day from water-borne diseases.

A person who drinks a liter of bottled water a day might be consuming tens of thousands of microplastic particles each year, as per the study.

Often, microplastics or its derivatives can cross the cell barrier which, in turn, may gradually multiply to larger metabolic disorders/problems. These being endocrine disrupting substances, may show such detrimental effects too as per the scientist.

Only by curbing the use of plastic, we can retain the spread of microplastics.

WhatsApp introduced new Block revoke request feature for curbing misuse of ‘Delete for Everyone’ feature

WhatsApp introduced new Block revoke request feature in order to stop users from exploiting the ‘Delete for Everyone’ feature through modified versions of the app, which allowed some users to delete messages sent as long as three years back.

WhatsApp Block revoke request feature

WhatsApp introduced new Block revoke request feature

With the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.18.69 version, WhatsApp recently increased the time limit to delete messages for everyone to 4,096 seconds or 68 minutes and 16 seconds. The messaging platform increased the limit from 420 seconds or seven minutes as part of WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.18.69. This change was also applied to recent WhatsApp for iOS and Windows Phone updates.

However, many Android users, through unauthorized WhatsApp versions could delete WhatsApp message as old as 3 years. But the chat app has put an end to this now. As WhatsApp has silently added another feature called Block revoke request in order to stop users from exploiting the ‘Delete for Everyone’ feature.

How the feature ‘Delete for Everyone’ misused?

The reason why some of the users were able to delete 3 years old message through some tricks was because WhatsApp did not check any other important information other than the ID of the message and the revoke request. When the recipient received this particular message contained the revoke request, WhatsApp checked if the ID of the message was present in the database and directly deleted it.

How the Block revoke request feature works as a safeguard?

# WhatsApp has also silently added something else to improve the Delete for Everyone feature in a few precedent updates. In order to stop these bad users, WhatsApp has implemented a Block revoke request feature.

# This is how the safeguard feature works. When the user deletes a message for everyone, WhatsApp sends a new message to the recipient. This message has the same ID of the message that the user wants to revoke. WhatsApp then finds a message in the database having the same ID of the received revoke request and checks the date related information of the message saved in the database.

# Previously, when the recipient received this particular message contained the revoke request, the app checked if the ID of the message was present in the database, if the original message was found, WhatsApp directly deleted it without checking any other important information.

# This algorithm has been recently improved to perform the delete operation only if WhatsApp finds a message in the database having the same ID of the received revoke message request, it checks the data of the message saved in the database, performing an operation: if (current date) – (the date of the saved message) is less than 24 hours, WhatsApp can successfully delete the message.

# Adding this new operation, the recipient is sure that nobody can illegally delete messages for everyone.

Why has WhatsApp decided to choose 24 hours as time reference?

WhatsApp has decided to choose 24 hours as time reference because a user can delete a message for everyone and the recipient’s phone might be turned off at that moment.
Choosing 24 hours, WhatsApp is sure that the recipient will surely receive the revoke request (seen that hardly a user doesn’t turn on his device within 24 hours), but this also means that:
If the recipient won’t turn on his phone within 24 hours, the revoke request will be considered invalid, also if the message was correctly deleted for everyone within 1 hours 8 minutes and 16 seconds but, as above mentioned, this is an unusual situation.
All users that are currently using modified and unauthorized WhatsApp versions can successfully continue to delete messages for everyone within 24 hours.

The WhatsApp new feature Block revoke request is a step to curb exploitation of a feature that was deemed useful by those using the platform.

Twitter blue tick verification – to prove your identity

Twitter will soon open the blue tick verification process for all users on the platform who can prove their identity. The micro-blogging site is working on a new process to verify people’s identity and, thus, ensure credibility.

Twitter blue tick verification

When a blue tick appears on a Twitter account, it means it’s a person of interest who’s been verified as genuine. Despite its original function of authenticating accounts, the much-coveted blue check mark has grown to become a status symbol.

Twitter’s CEO, Jack Dorsey explained “The intention is to open verification to everyone, and to do it in a way that is scalable, (so) we’re not in the way and people can verify more facts about themselves, and we don’t have to be the judge and imply any bias on our part.”

Now Twitter blue tick verification for all

Twitter blue tick verification process introduced in 2009. Its usually only reserved for high-profile people like celebrities, politicians, and journalists, to help users know they’re legit. To obtain a verified check mark, users have to apply with a reason for why they need one.

In 2016, Twitter allowed any user to apply for a Blue badge by asking them to fill a form as of why their account should be verified. However, in 2017, Twitter suspended this feature after it received backlash after the verification badge was given to controversial figures.

But now as per the company, the authentication feature should be available to anyone and that’s why Twitter has admitted it eventually wants to let anyone get a coveted blue tick on the social media site.

How do you get Twitter verification?

As per the company, in the verified badge where lets people know that an account of public interest is genuine. Verified badges can only be applied by Twitter. The blue tick appears next to the name on an account’s profile and next to the name in search results
