Now, six more apps with malicious intent have been found and Google has removed them recently. These apps have a combined download of 500 million.

What are the most dangerous Android apps? Out of the six apps, four are VPN apps-HotSpotVPN, Free VPN Free VPN Master, Secure VPN, and CM Security Applock AntiVirus while the other two are camera apps – Sun Pro Beauty Camera and Funny Sweet Beauty Selfie Camera.

These four VPN Android apps are made by developers based out of China and are found guilty of pushing countless fraud ads on smartphones.

Sun Pro Beauty camera has been in the Play Store for two years, and Funny Sweet Beauty Selfie Camera has been around for 6 months and these two camera apps have been downloaded over 1.5 million times from Google Play.

Both the apps served pop-up ads to make money. The ads used to continue to run in the background, interrupting users and also drained the battery of the device.

If you have any of these apps installed on your Android phone delete them right away. And in corrective action, Google has now removed all the affected apps from the Play Store.

The Joker malware is very dangerous to data privacy for Android users and it can cause a lot of harm. The malware was able to secretly sign people up to premium subscription services, steal SMS messages, contacts, and gather device information such as the serial and IMEI numbers.

The majority of the apps in question targeted specifically European and Asian countries and required a user to be using a SIM card from those regions in order for the malware to execute.

Those apps were installed roughly 472,000 times. As per the news report, the apps started their campaigns in June 2019, although some may have also existed in the past. In total 24 different apps were infected with the malware.

Google removed all of the impacted apps from the Google Play store without any contact from the security researchers.

To be a point that Joker malware’s presence has been seen in 37 countries, with India as one of the countries to be largely affected.

Make sure you’re paying attention to what permissions an app is asking for on your phone before you install it. If something is asking for access that you don’t think it needs, then you may want to reconsider installing an app in the first place.
