WhatsApp group video, voice calling feature rolls out for Android, iOS users with update.  Today, finally the company has announced that it has started rolling out the group calling feature for both voice and video calls globally.

First discovered back in October last year, group calling on the WhatsApp was officially announced by Facebook at its annual F8 developer conference in May this year. The feature then rolled out for WhatsApp beta users on Android earlier this June. While beta users could engage in group calls with non-beta users the former couldn’t make calls from their end.

WhatsApp also claims that group calls are end-to-end encrypted and are designed to work on different networks. The feature is available for both Android and iOS users.

Recently, it was reported that iPhone app for WhatsApp has been updated and now it enables users to send WhatsApp group messages directly by speaking to Siri.

How to make group video, audio calls on WhatsApp with up to four peoples total?

# Both audio and video group calls allow for adding a total of up to four participants. This means a user can add three contacts, and the total participants will be four, including the user.

# You will first need to make a one-on-one video or audio call on WhatsApp.

# On the top right corner, you will see an icon to add more participants to the call.

# Tap on that icon and add a member to the call from your contact list.

# You can choose one contact at a time from your list.

# The video call will break into four mini-screens of each member on the call.

# Similarly, the audio call screen will show all members’ display picture on the screen.

# During a group voice call, you won’t be able to switch the call to a video call.

# During a group video call, you have the option to turn your camera off by tapping the Turn off camera icon.

# You can’t remove a contact during a group voice/video call. The contact would need to hang up their phone to disconnect from the call.

# WhatsApp also allows the receiver to add members to the group call.

# The group calling feature supports up to four people simultaneously. WhatsApp users currently spend over two billion minutes on calls per day.

# Group voice/video call history will appear in the calls tab. You can tap the call history to view the individual contacts from the call.

# While it’s possible to be in a group voice/video call with someone you’ve blocked, you can’t add a contact to the call that you’ve blocked or a contact that has blocked you.

In comparison, Facebook Messenger supports group video calls of up to 50 and Skype supports 25. Meanwhile, Snapchat supports 16 participants and Apple’s FaceTime will work with up to 32 peoples when iOS 12 launches later this year.

Notably

To be pointed that you need to download the latest version of the WhatsApp app via Google Play Store and Apple App Store. WhatsApp group calls will be end-to-end encrypted, just like chats. The new WhatsApp feature is now available for users around the world on iOS and Android.
