WhatsApp has announced that it is expanding support for a number of participants in a group call with the new limit now set at 8 people instead of four previously.WABetaInfo last week had spotted the increased limit in WhatsApp’s beta version.

The new limit on users has been announced on both video and voice calls. The feature has been announced to make it easier for users to communicate with their friends and family using the platform so that people can stay connected during COVID-19 lockdown.

From your group chat tap the video or voice call icon to start a call with everyone in the chat directly.

For those who don’t know, WhatsApp recently made group video and voice calling slightly more convenient. It now allows you to conduct a group video call or voice call directly from a WhatsApp group by tapping on the video/audio call icon.

However, one needs to ensure that all group members are added to the group in order to start a group video call directly from the particular WhatsApp group.

There are two ways to go about making group calls on WhatsApp with the platform providing users the opportunity to either start a call from within a group or with an individual user and then add more participants to the group video/voice call.

From a group

# If you’re interested in starting a video call from within a group all you’d need to do is click on the call icon on the right-hand corner at the top of the group’s window.

# Then add participants as per your choice from the group.

# Then simply click on voice or video call button at the top to initiate the call to the selected participants.

From an individual chat
