WhatsApp now gets Call Waiting feature but no call holding

WhatsApp now gets Call Waiting feature but no call holding WhatsApp has become the latest Voice over Internet Protocol services provider to support the new call waiting feature even as the company has skipped adding call holding for now.

From this version onwards, if you’re on a WhatsApp voice call and you receive another voice call, a drop-down menu will appear.

As the name clearly suggests, this call waiting feature alerts users when they receive a WhatsApp call when they are already in the middle of another WhatsApp call with someone else.

When you’re already talking on the phone and another person tries to call you, most phones and operators let you know that you’ve got a call waiting.

Very few VOIP services support that, though, and WhatsApp wasn’t among them until now.

The service has rolled out call waiting feature on Android, but it didn’t include the fancy call holding addition.

The feature is now available for both Android, after being made available for the iPhone app late last month.

The latest WhatsApp update for both the beta as well as stable Android channels brings the call waiting feature. It is now available via the Google Play Store.

The Call waiting is available in v2.19.352 stable (APK Mirror) and above of WhatsApp, and v2.19.128 (APK Mirror) of WhatsApp Business, as well as version 2.19.357 and version 2.19.358 of the beta app.

How WhatsApp call waiting feature works?

# Earlier when someone tried to call you on WhatsApp while you were already on the phone, they’d hear it ring, no one would answer, then they’d get disconnected.

For you, there was no way of knowing this was happening while talking – all you’d get is a missed call notification when you were done with your original call.

# Then WhatsApp added a small notice for callers, telling them their recipient is already on another call, but that didn’t change much in the way this worked for them or you.

#  But following the update, users can choose to pick up the incoming call while talking with another person.

# The incoming call UI in WhatsApp now shows a green ‘End & Accept’ button alongside the ‘Decline’ button.

# If you press the red ‘Decline’ button, the incoming call will be canceled and you can carry on with your ongoing call.

# However, if you tap on the ‘End & Accept’ button, the ongoing call will be disconnected so that you can talk to the other person.

# Unlike call holding on a regular call over a cellular network, WhatsApp won’t allow you to put the second incoming call on hold and link with two people on the line simultaneously.

# You either choose to continue with the ongoing WhatsApp call or disconnect it in order to accept the second incoming call.

The latest WhatsApp beta update

# The latest WhatsApp beta update has brought three new options for dark mode on the app.

# The light theme would offer a white background. Dark theme, as the name suggests, would enable dark mode on WhatsApp, according to the report of WABetaInfo.

# Another option, which is ‘Set by Battery Saver’, the dark mode would be activated only when the smartphone’s battery level drops below a certain point.

This third option is said to be available only for smartphones running on Android 9.0 or older.

WhatsApp new privacy settings allow

# The changelog also mentions the arrival of enhanced group privacy settings and the fingerprint unlock support for the app.

# In addition, to call waiting, the new WhatsApp update also marks the wider rollout of the updated group privacy feature that allows users to decide who can add them to a WhatsApp call.

# New privacy settings allow you to control who can add you to groups. Go to Settings > Account > Privacy > Groups to get started.

# You can now require a fingerprint to unlock WhatsApp. Tap Settings > Account > Privacy > Fingerprint lock and enable Unlock with fingerprint.

# Fixed an issue that caused a fast battery drain on some devices.
