Whatsapp to get fingerprint authentication on Android soon According to a report by WABetaInfo,WhatsApp is working making the messaging platform secure than ever before as the messaging app is all preparing to bring a fingerprint authentication feature.

The fingerprint authentication feature, as the name suggests, will protect the user’s data from being revealed to others.

The Facebook-owned instant messaging service was recently reported to bring a similar feature to iPhone as well, supporting two biometric authentication methods – both Face ID and Touch ID.

Now after working on the Face ID and Touch ID integration on WhatsApp for iOS which haven’t been made available yet for development reasons, the app has started to work on the WhatsApp fingerprint authentication for Android OS.

Therefore the fingerprint authentication feature is said to be in the testing stage and will be rolled out very soon.

The feature is currently under development in Beta for Android 2.19.3 version. The fingerprint authentication feature will be available within the app under a new section, as per the report.

WhatsApp Fingerprint Authentication Feature

# Basically, the fingerprint authentication feature will keep the user’s data safe and will refrain others to get access to the chats between you and your friend.

# With the fingerprint authentication coming to WhatsApp, users will basically need to use their fingerprint to open the app.

# This means only the phones with a fingerprint sensor – physical or in-display – will be able to get to use the feature.

# This otherwise means that Apple iPhone users – including the newer ones iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR – will not able to use this feature.

How to use WhatsApp Fingerprint Authentication Feature?

# Users will be able to enable this feature by heading to the Settings tab > then to Account > and finally to Privacy option.

# Once you enable the fingerprint feature, WhatsApp will be completely protected from others to be seen. Of course, if your phone is already protected by an authentication method.

# The user will need to authenticate his identity in order to open WhatsApp from the app icon, from the notification or from external pickers.

# It will protect the entire app, so it’s not used to lock specific conversations.

Notably

According to the report, this feature will come to Android first and later to iPhone. Android users need to have at least the Marshmallow version of Android and a fingerprint scanner on their phone.
