Now instead, after some months, WhatsApp has finally submitted a new update for the web platform, giving the possibility to use the Picture in Picture feature for videos hosted on YouTube, Facebook, Instagram and Streamable.

To test this feature, you need to send/receive a message that contains a link of a video hosted on one of those services above mentioned.

WhatsApp will show a preview of the video in the bubble and if you press it, WhatsApp presents the video in Picture in Picture mode.
WhatsApp also gives the possibility to switch the chat without closing the PiP.

WhatsApp does not really have a desktop version. One such feature that was missing on the desktop version is picture in picture (PIP) mode. This has been available on the actual WhatsApp app for a while now.

WhatsApp is now rolling out “Picture in Picture (PiP) mode” for web users that will allow them to view videos within a chat window, without opening third party pages or apps.

# PIP saves time, it allows you to continue to watch a shared video, which presents as a tiny floating window while you continue to read and reply to other chats.

# This basically reduces the burden of switching between two apps to watch the video and chat at the same time.

# Earlier WhatsApp users had to go to the YouTube app to watch the video and then return back to WhatsApp to message.

# PIP will be available for both actual shared video files and other popular video sharing services lead by YouTube.

# The new of WhatsApp Web getting comes from WABetainfo.

HOW THE PICTURE IN PICTURE FEATURE WORK ON WHATSAPP WEB?

# With the PiP feature, WhatsApp users can watch a video and message at the same time, Basically multi-task.

# The feature basically works only with the video links received on WhatsApp. Means you need to receive a YouTube video link from any of your contacts.

# Click on the video link.

# The video will open in a small window within the same chat window itself and the users will basically watch the video and also chat with friends.

# Now, if the user switches to another chat, the video will continue to play in a bubble.

# To close the video, the user can just use the swiping gesture on the bubble.

# WhatsApp brings the same experience to the Web users now.

# The feature has been rolled out for the 0.3.2041 update, so if the feature doesn’t work for you, it means you are using an old WhatsApp Web version.

# To force the update, you must clear the cache of your browser (you can try to use the CTRL + F5 shortcut that will clear the cache on the page you are currently visiting).

# Restart the browser and now you should be able to use the latest WhatsApp Web update with the Picture in Picture feature enabled.

# Be sure to wait a few seconds before sending the link of the video, in order to allow WhatsApp to load the preview, otherwise the PiP won’t be presented.

It means for this feature to work is to wait for the app to generate the link preview before sharing the video link with your friends or family. To do this, one should paste the video link in the chat and then wait for some seconds for the app to look for the associated video.

NOTABLY

The feature basically works only with the video links received on WhatsApp. To enjoy the PIP feature on WhatsApp Web users should upgrade to the latest version 0.3.2041 of the app.

To be noted that the rollout may happen in a phased manner so users who are yet to receive the update should need to be a little more patient.
